Fall break at the beach just hits differently. 🌴☀️

If your family is heading to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or the Gulf Coast, Alabama, for fall break, you're probably already planning beach days, seafood dinners, maybe a little shopping, and plenty of time soaking up the sunshine. But there's one thing you don't want to forget to bring home with you: photos of your family together.

Fall is one of my favorite times for family photography in Gulf Shores because the beaches are a little quieter, the temperatures are more comfortable, and you can still get those beautiful Gulf Coast sunsets.

Why Fall Break Is Perfect for Family Photos

Summer gets all the attention when it comes to beach vacations, but fall is actually a fantastic time for family pictures.

The weather is usually more comfortable than the heat and humidity of the middle of summer, making it easier for little ones (and parents!) to enjoy the session. With fewer crowds on the beach, we can also find a beautiful spot where your family can relax and have fun without feeling like you're surrounded by vacationers.

And let's be honest—after spending a few days at the beach, everyone is already in vacation mode. That's exactly the energy I want to capture.

You Don't Have to "Pose" the Whole Time

One of my favorite things about family photography is capturing the moments that happen in between the poses.

We'll get a few classic family portraits, but I'll also encourage you to walk along the shoreline, play with your kids, give them a piggyback ride, chase the waves, or simply enjoy being together.

Those genuine smiles and little interactions often end up being some of my favorite images.

You don't have to be a professional model. You don't even have to know what to do with your hands. 😉

I'll help guide you through the session while leaving plenty of room for your family's personalities to come through.

The Gulf Shores Sunset

Of course, we can't talk about beach family photos without talking about sunset.

The Gulf Coast provides a beautiful backdrop for family portraits, especially as the sun starts getting lower over the water. The soft evening light creates that warm, dreamy look that makes beach portraits feel extra special.

Fall sunset sessions are especially nice because you don't have to stand on a hot beach in the middle of the afternoon.

Instead, we can take advantage of the cooler evening temperatures while capturing that gorgeous golden light.

What Should You Wear?

Don't stress too much about coordinating the perfect outfits.

I recommend choosing comfortable clothing in colors that work well together without everyone wearing exactly the same thing. Soft neutrals, blues, creams, tans, greens, and other natural colors look beautiful against the beach.

And remember—you are going to be on the beach!

Bare feet, rolled-up pants, sandy toes, and wind-blown hair are completely welcome. Those little details are part of your Gulf Shores vacation story.

Make Your Fall Break Vacation Last Longer

Vacations go by way too quickly.

One minute you're loading the car and heading to Gulf Shores, and the next you're packing everything back up and wondering where the week went.

Your photographs give you a way to hold onto those memories long after the sand has been cleaned out of everyone's shoes.

Whether this is your family's first trip to Gulf Shores or you've been coming here for years, a family beach session is a fun way to document this particular season of your family's life.

Your kids won't always be this little. Your family won't always look exactly like this.

Take the pictures.
